Lenten Reflections on Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

– Psalm 40:1-3

This devotional book is comprised of 40 stories by 40 members of our church. Their stories illustrate a phrase, theme, or truth from the above passage, Psalm 40:1-3. This passage reflects the season of Lent. Lent is forty days of penance and preparation before the celebration of Easter. Lent is a season of letting go, laying down, and giving up; of self-control, perseverance, and perspective; of less is more and loss is gain. These stories reflect these themes of Lent, of times when God stretched, grew, or stilled us.

Our hope is to read these stories together as a church, to encounter Jesus together in a new way.
