our story

In the spring of 2004, Pioneer Drive Baptist Church began exploring the possibility of a new kind of worship service that would connect with the next generation of worshippers. As teams were formed and conversations developed, the desire became clear for a worshiping community of imperfect people founded on Jesus Christ and guided by the scriptures to provide a sacred space for people who didn’t feel like there was a place for them in church.

the gathering held her first worship service on Sunday, January 16, 2005 in the gymnasium of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Each Saturday evening a team of dedicated staff and volunteers prepared the gym to be a place of worship and did take down after service on Sunday. In our early years, we were able to develop a core group of people who simply wanted to love God and love others. Beginning in the fall of 2007, the gathering moved into her new home: the Conference Center at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, which was newly constructed and a great home to the growing worship service.

From day one, the heartbeat of the gathering has been to let those who might feel far off from God know that there is a God who loves them tremendously. For those who have felt disenfranchised with church, we desire to be a faith community that does her best to authentically love Jesus and love one another even though we are imperfect. At the gathering we are an imperfect people focused on sharing the wide, gracious love of God with those beyond the walls, with our friends, neighbors, and strangers.

We are blessed to be connected with the larger body of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. This special relationship means that the gathering's ministry is intertwined with other fantastic ministries under the umbrella of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Beginning in 2012, there became a need for more space to accommodate a growing number of worshipers. The leadership team for the gathering felt led to begin a second morning worship service at 9 a.m. so that space would not be a barrier to people having the opportunity to come and worship God.

Our approach still remains the same: a laid-back, informal atmosphere where each person can deeply encounter a Holy God that transforms one's entire life. We would love to have you come join us on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.
